The Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X683C is a pair of 6×8-inch 2-way custom fit car speakers. Each one uses a carbon-polypropylene hybrid woofer cone with Kenwood’s Diamond Array Pattern and a rubber surround, plus a 1-3/16-inch PEI balanced dome tweeter. Diamond Array Pattern cone
The KFC-X683C woofer uses a carbon-polypropylene hybrid cone with Kenwood’s Diamond Array Pattern, the textured surface you can see in the photos. The 6 x 8-inch (145 x 204 mm) injection-molded polypropylene cone has a rubber surround, a black steel basket and a ferrite magnet.
PEI balanced dome tweeter
A 1-3/16-inch (30 mm) PEI balanced dome tweeter is mounted at the center of each woofer and handles the high frequencies, making each speaker a complete 2-way unit for a 6×8-inch opening. Kenwood calls the KFC-X683C a custom fit speaker system.
Power and fit
Each speaker handles 60 watts RMS and 180 watts peak at a nominal 3 ohms. Sensitivity is 88 dB at 1 watt/1 meter, and frequency response runs from 80 Hz to 21 kHz. Without the grille, each speaker measures 8 inches (203.7 mm) wide, 5-11/16 inches (145 mm) high and 3-1/8 inches (80 mm) deep, and the mounting depth is 2-1/2 inches (64 mm).
Before you install
Measure the opening and the space behind it in your vehicle. The KFC-X683C needs at least 2-1/2 inches of clear depth behind the mounting surface, its frame measures 8 x 5-11/16 inches without the grille, and the overall depth is 3-1/8 inches. Kenwood does not publish an accessory list for this model, so grilles and mounting hardware are not listed here.
