Overview
The Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X183C is a pair of oversized custom fit 2-way car speakers, designed as an upgrade to a factory speaker system. A Diamond Array Pattern polypropylene woofer cone works with a 1-inch soft dome tweeter. They handle 80 watts RMS and 280 watts peak at 4 ohms, with 87 dB sensitivity and a 63 Hz to 17 kHz response. A multi-fit bracket and a 6×9 bracket are included.

Oversized custom fit design
Kenwood designed the KFC-X183C as a true upgrade to a factory speaker system, with an oversized diaphragm 28% bigger than the KFC-X173. Kenwood’s current page calls it a 6-1/2-inch (160 mm) oversized speaker; an earlier version of the same page listed a 7-inch (180 mm) woofer. Either way, the goal is more cone area than a standard 6-1/2-inch speaker in many factory openings.
Woofer and tweeter
The woofer uses a polypropylene cone with Kenwood’s Diamond Array Pattern, a rubber surround, a black steel basket and a ferrite magnet. A 1-inch (25 mm) soft dome tweeter handles the highs.
Power and response
Each speaker handles 80 watts RMS and 280 watts peak at 4 ohms. Sensitivity is 87 dB at 1 watt/1 meter, and frequency response runs from 63 Hz to 17 kHz.
Brackets and fit
Each pair comes with a special multi-fit bracket that can be modified for a variety of makes, plus a 6×9 bracket. Kenwood says the speakers install easily in Dodge, GM, Toyota and Chevrolet vehicles. Without the grille, each speaker measures 6-9/16 x 6-9/16 x 3-3/16 inches (166 x 166 x 81 mm), and the mounting depth is 2-7/16 inches (62 mm). Check the fit for your vehicle before you install.
