The Kenwood eXcelon Reference XR-1701P is a 6-1/2-inch component speaker system certified for High-Resolution Audio. Glass fiber woofers work with separate 1-3/16-inch titanium hard dome tweeters through external crossover networks that support bi-amp wiring. The set handles 100 watts RMS (300 watts peak) at 3 ohms with 87 dB sensitivity, and includes flush and angle tweeter mounts plus woofer multi-brackets.

Hi-Res component sound
The XR-1701P carries the High-Resolution Audio logo defined by the Japan Audio Society, with response up to 40 kHz. Its 6-1/2-inch woofers use a light, strong glass fiber cone, a woofer cap with a circle rib and a rubber surround. Separate 1-3/16-inch (30 mm) titanium hard dome tweeters with neodymium magnets handle the highs and mount separately from the woofers, either flush or at an angle.
Bi-amp ready crossovers
Each external network box uses 12 dB per octave filters for the woofer and tweeter. A terminal setting selects 0 dB or -3 dB tweeter level. Remove the jumper plug to bi-amp, powering the woofer and tweeter from separate amplifier channels. A polyswitch and resistor in the network help protect the tweeter from being overdriven.
Power and installation
The set handles 100 watts RMS and 300 watts peak at 3 ohms, with 87 dB sensitivity. Response is 60 Hz to 35 kHz (-3 dB) under CTA standards, or 43 Hz to 40 kHz (-10 dB). The woofers need a 5-1/2-inch cutout and 2-5/16 inches of mounting depth, and multi-brackets are included for many vehicles. Tweeters can be flush mounted in a 1-13/16-inch hole or surface mounted at an angle with the supplied hardware. Grilles are included.

Important notes
- Impedance is 3 ohms. Check that your receiver or amplifier is rated for the load.
- For bi-amp use, remove the jumper plug on each network and wire woofer and tweeter to separate amplifier channels.
- Kenwood recommends 12-22 AWG speaker wire. The tweeter flush-mount cutout is 1-13/16 inches.
