The XR1001-1 is a single-channel Class D amplifier from the Kenwood eXcelon Reference line. Kenwood rates it at 500 watts x 1 RMS at 4 ohms and 1,000 watts x 1 at 2 ohms, with 2,000 watts maximum. Its CTA-2006-D rating is 500 watts at 4 ohms and 1% THD or less, with an 85 dBA signal-to-noise figure. Frequency response runs from 20 to 200 Hz, and Kenwood separates the analog, digital amplifier and power supply circuits to keep noise low.
Detailed bass tuning
The low-pass filter sets the crossover from 50 to 200 Hz, and a slope switch selects 12 or 24 dB per octave. A variable infrasonic filter cuts inaudible frequencies between 15 and 40 Hz at 24 dB per octave, so the subwoofer does not waste power on them. Bass boost adds 0 to 18 dB at 40 Hz, input sensitivity adjusts from 0.2 to 5.0 volts, and the included wired remote sets the bass level from the driver’s seat.
Installation details
An RCA line input and a line output let you pass the signal on to a second amplifier. The manual also shows how to feed a factory radio with up to 50 watts of output, using signal-sensing turn-on. A cooling fan helps control internal temperature, so leave its vents clear when mounting. Three 40 A fuses protect the circuit, and Kenwood specifies 4 to 6 gauge power wire. The amp measures 12-5/8 x 2 x 6-5/8 inches and weighs 7.1 pounds.
