Kenwood eXcelon KFC-XW1042 10″ 4-Ohm Car Subwoofer
10-inch eXcelon subwoofer handling 300 watts RMS with a 61.4 oz ferrite magnet
$129.99
Overview
Kenwood’s eXcelon KFC-XW1042 is a 10-inch single voice coil subwoofer rated at 4 ohms, 300 watts RMS and 1,300 watts peak. A polypropylene cone, a heavy 61.4 oz ferrite magnet and a 6-layer copper voice coil on an aluminum former give it solid low-end output with good heat resistance. The driver is sold on its own, so you will need an enclosure and amplifier, plus room for a 9-1/16-inch cutout and 5-1/4 inches of mounting depth.
Product details
A 10-inch eXcelon sub voiced for low bass
The KFC-XW1042 brings Kenwood’s eXcelon design to a 10-inch frame. Kenwood tunes it to put more of its output into the lowest notes, and rates it for a frequency response of 44 to 300 Hz with 82 dB sensitivity. The polypropylene cone rides on a foam surround inside a steel basket, and a 61.4 oz (1,740 g) ferrite magnet provides the motor strength.

Power handling and voice coil cooling
With a single 4-ohm voice coil rated at 300 watts RMS and 1,300 watts peak, the KFC-XW1042 is simple to pair with an amplifier that delivers close to its RMS figure at 4 ohms. The 6-layer copper voice coil is wound on an aluminum former, and the air the cone moves as it plays is used to help cool the coil, so the woofer can keep up during long, bass-heavy sessions.
Enclosure and install planning
The subwoofer measures 10-13/16 inches (275 mm) across, needs a 9-1/16-inch (230 mm) cutout and requires 5-1/4 inches (133 mm) of mounting depth. It weighs 10.14 lb (4.6 kg). Recommended enclosure volumes are 0.65 cubic feet sealed or 0.8 cubic feet ported, so choose or build a box near those figures and check that it clears the mounting depth. A grille is not included. If you are building or modifying an enclosure, professional installation is a good idea.
