Shallow 12-inch bass
The IXS series is DS18’s shallow-mount line, built for cab-back walls, under-seat boxes, and other tight spaces. The IXS12.4D needs 4.33 inches of mounting depth and a 10.79-inch front-mount cutout, with a 12.6-inch overall diameter. DS18 lists a 20 Hz to 600 Hz frequency response and recommends a low-pass crossover at 80 Hz.
Power and wiring
Power handling is 800 watts RMS and 1,600 watts max. The dual 4-ohm voice coils (4+4 ohms) can be wired in series or parallel, so one woofer can present a different final load to your amplifier. Confirm that your amplifier is stable at the load you choose before you connect it. Sensitivity is listed at 85 dB (1 W/1 m).
Motor and cone
A 2.5-inch voice coil is wound with copper on an aluminum former. The cone is paper with a fiberglass dust cap and a stitched rubber surround, carried on an aluminum basket with a corrugated black finish. The ferrite magnet weighs 62 oz. Woofer displacement is 0.93 L.
Enclosure planning
DS18 recommends a sealed enclosure with a minimum internal volume of 1 cubic foot (28 L), with a listed sealed-box F3 of 40 Hz. Account for the 0.93 L woofer displacement when you calculate net volume, and check the mounting depth against the space behind the baffle.
