The Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X2C is a 2-3/4-inch custom fit mid-high speaker made to replace factory dash speakers in select Chevrolet, Dodge and Toyota vehicles. Its acrylic carbon hybrid cone is light but rigid and covers the midrange and high frequencies without a separate tweeter. Custom fit dash replacement
Kenwood designed the eXcelon KFC-X2C as a vehicle-specific replacement for factory 2-3/4-inch dash speakers. Kenwood’s supported vehicle chart lists the Chevrolet Silverado (2014 and later), Tahoe (2015 and later) and Camaro (2015 and later), the Dodge Caliber (2007-2012), and the Toyota Tacoma (2004-2016), Tundra (2007 and later), Sequoia (2008 and later), FJ Cruiser (2006-2018), 4Runner (2002 and later) and Highlander (2008 and later).
Acrylic carbon hybrid cone
The KFC-X2C is a mid-high speaker with a single cone rather than a 2-way design, so there is no separate tweeter. Kenwood describes its acrylic carbon hybrid cone as light but rigid, delivering rich midrange and high-frequency response. The driver uses a cloth surround, a plastic basket and a ferrite magnet.
Power and fit
The KFC-X2C handles 50 watts RMS (CTA) and 120 watts peak at 4 ohms. Sensitivity is 83 dB and frequency response runs from 800 Hz to 20 kHz. The cutout diameter is 2-7/16 inches (62 mm), the mounting depth is 1-5/16 inches (34 mm), and the speaker sits 1/4 inch (6 mm) above the mounting surface. Overall width is 4-1/16 inches (103 mm) and height is 2-13/16 inches (71.5 mm).
Crossover and Toyota wiring
Two in-line crossover networks are included. They work as a -6 dB per octave high-pass filter at 850 Hz, and Kenwood’s manual states that the power rating requires the attached network. A cushion set is also included. In Toyota vehicles, the manual notes that the front tweeter and door woofer are wired together at each tweeter location, so the input and output wires must be spliced together to keep the woofers working.
