Overview
The Kenwood eXcelon Reference XR401-4 is a slim Class D 4-channel car amplifier rated at 75 watts x 4 RMS at 4 ohms or 100 watts x 4 at 2 ohms, and it can be bridged to 200 watts x 2. It is Hi-Res Audio certified with a 20 Hz to 40 kHz response, and each channel pair has high- and low-pass filters with two frequency ranges. A wired level remote for channels B is included.

Clean four-channel power
The XR401-4 is part of Kenwood’s eXcelon Reference line. It is rated at 75 watts x 4 RMS at 4 ohms, 100 watts x 4 at 2 ohms, or 200 watts x 2 bridged at 4 ohms. Its CTA-2006 rating is 75 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms with 1% THD or less, and the signal-to-noise ratio is 100 dB. Frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 40 kHz, and the amp is Hi-Res Audio certified.
Dual-range filters
Channels A and B each have a filter switch for high-pass, low-pass or off, plus a range switch. The low range adjusts from 50 to 200 Hz and the high range from 2.5 to 10 kHz, both at 12 dB per octave, so the amp can drive subwoofers, midrange drivers or tweeters. An input selector lets one pair of RCA inputs feed all four channels, and input sensitivity adjusts from 0.2 to 5 volts.
Install details
The included wired remote adjusts the level of channels B from the driver’s seat and comes with a 6 m cable. The amp can also take the output of a factory head unit of up to 50 watts and turn on by signal sensing. Two 30 A fuses protect the circuit, and the terminals take AWG 4 to 6 power wire and AWG 8 to 16 speaker wire. It measures 8-11/16 x 1-3/8 x 6-5/8 inches.

Important notes

- The amplifier draws up to 37 A; use AWG 4 to 6 power wire as Kenwood specifies.
