The Kenwood KFC-6996PS is a pair of 6×9-inch oval 5-way car speakers. Each speaker uses a polypropylene woofer with Kenwood’s Diamond Array Pattern and a urethane surround, a 1-3/4-inch balanced-dome tweeter, and three ceramic super tweeters. 5-way 6×9 design
Each KFC-6996PS speaker combines a 6×9-inch (153 x 229 mm) polypropylene woofer, a 1-3/4-inch (44 mm) balanced-dome tweeter, one 4/5-inch ceramic super tweeter and two 1/2-inch ceramic super tweeters. The woofer cone uses Kenwood’s Diamond Array Pattern with a urethane surround, a steel basket and a ferrite magnet.
Acoustic Sound Harmonizer and Sound Field Enhancer
Kenwood’s Acoustic Sound Harmonizer shapes woofer energy through openings in the tweeter panel so the mid-to-high transition stays smooth. The Sound Field Enhancer uses the tweeter shape to strengthen forward output and widen the field above about 5 kHz. A low tweeter height helps the speakers fit many factory 6×9 openings.
Power and response
Kenwood rates each speaker at 150 watts RMS (CTA) and 650 watts peak at 4 ohms. Sensitivity is 88 dB at 1 watt/1 meter, and frequency response runs from 58 Hz to 22 kHz (CTA). Black-painted yoke and plate parts in the magnetic circuit help manage heat at the voice coil.
