The Kenwood eXcelon Reference XR-1701 is a pair of 6-1/2-inch 2-way coaxial car speakers certified for High-Resolution Audio. Each one pairs a glass fiber woofer cone with a 1-3/16-inch titanium hard dome tweeter. They handle 100 watts RMS (300 watts peak) at 3 ohms with 87 dB sensitivity, and a multi-bracket plus grilles are included for easier installs in many vehicles.

Built for High-Resolution Audio
The XR-1701 carries the High-Resolution Audio logo defined by the Japan Audio Society, and its response reaches 40 kHz. The 6-1/2-inch woofer uses a glass fiber cone with a rubber surround and a ferrite magnet. Rated frequency response runs from 45 Hz up to 40 kHz at -10 dB, so the speaker covers both deep bass notes and the very top of the treble range that Hi-Res recordings can contain.
Large titanium tweeter
Mounted at the center of each woofer, a 1-3/16-inch (30 mm) titanium hard dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet handles the high frequencies. A built-in high-pass network with a 12 dB per octave slope feeds the tweeter, so the tweeter receives only the high frequencies while the woofer covers the rest.
Power and fit
Each speaker handles 100 watts RMS and 300 watts peak at 3 ohms, with 87 dB sensitivity. Response is 64 Hz to 35 kHz (-3 dB) under CTA standards, or 45 Hz to 40 kHz (-10 dB). The cutout is 5-1/2 inches and the mounting depth is 2-5/16 inches. Kenwood includes woofer multi-brackets, including GM fitment, along with grilles, screws, speed nuts, adhesive tape and a mounting template. Each speaker weighs 2.5 pounds with its grille.
