Slim mono subwoofer power

The XR601-1 is a single-channel Class D amplifier from the Kenwood eXcelon Reference line. Kenwood rates it at 400 watts x 1 RMS at 4 ohms and 600 watts x 1 at 2 ohms. Its CTA-2006-D rating is 400 watts at 4 ohms and 1% THD or less, with a 78 dBA signal-to-noise figure. Frequency response runs from 20 to 200 Hz, and Kenwood separates the analog, digital amplifier and power supply circuits to keep noise low. At just 1-3/8 inches tall, it suits tight mounting spots.

Bass tuning controls

A variable low-pass filter sets the crossover from 50 to 200 Hz at 24 dB per octave, and bass boost adds 0 to 18 dB at 40 Hz. Input sensitivity adjusts from 0.2 to 5.0 volts to match your source unit. The included wired remote sets the bass level from the driver’s seat, so you can adjust the subwoofer for each song or recording.

Installation details

An RCA line input takes the signal from an aftermarket radio, and the manual also shows how to feed a factory radio with up to 50 watts of output, using signal-sensing turn-on. Three 30 A fuses protect the circuit, and Kenwood specifies 4 to 6 gauge power wire. A power indicator shows when the amp is on. The amp measures 8-11/16 x 1-3/8 x 6-5/8 inches and weighs 3.5 pounds.
