The Kenwood KFC-6966S is a pair of 6×9-inch 3-way coaxial car speakers. Each speaker combines a polypropylene woofer cone with a cloth surround, a 2-inch (50 mm) tweeter and a 1/2-inch ceramic super tweeter. They handle 45 watts RMS and 400 watts peak at 4 ohms, with 91 dB sensitivity and a 35 Hz to 20 kHz response. Mounting depth is 3 inches, and grilles are included.

3-way design
Kenwood builds the KFC-6966S with its Sound Field Enhancer to improve sound quality and an enlarged magnet circuit for clear sound. The 6×9-inch woofer uses a silver polypropylene cone with a cloth surround and a 220 g ferrite magnet. A 2-inch (50 mm) tweeter and a 1/2-inch (12 mm) ceramic super tweeter handle the upper frequencies, covering the highs that a 2-way speaker would leave to a single driver.
Power and response
Each speaker handles 45 watts RMS and 400 watts peak at 4 ohms. Sensitivity is 91 dB at 1 watt/1 meter, and frequency response runs from 35 Hz to 20 kHz.
Fit and size
Kenwood lists only 7/16 inch (11.5 mm) of mounting height, measured as tweeter height, to fit a wider selection of cars. The cutout is 6-1/16 x 8-3/4 inches (154 x 222 mm) and the mounting depth is 3 inches (76.8 mm). With the grille, each speaker measures 10-9/16 x 7-5/8 inches; without it, 9-1/4 x 6-7/16 inches.
Included hardware
Kenwood includes two grilles, eight 4 x 30 mm tapping screws, eight speed nuts and two 0.3 m speaker cords. Before you install, check the 3-inch mounting depth and the cutout against the speaker location in your vehicle.
